In this week’s AHL Simulation of the Week, the Western Conference leading Texas Stars welcome the Chicago Wolves to town. While the Stars have been the dominant force in the conference, the Wolves are currently hovering around the eigth and final playoff spot. The Stars certainly don’t want to lose their grip on the #1 seed, but at the same time, their opposition knows that a loss could be the difference between post-season hockey or an early start to the golf season. The action starts tonight at 7:30 PM CST.
In a valiant effort, the Chicago Wolves ended up leaving the Austin suburb with their tails between their legs, losing 2-0. The goal scoring occurred in the 1st and 3rd periods, with Toby Peterson beginning the proceedings late in the first. It would be the only goal of the game until defenseman Carl Sneep, secured the win with less than a minute remaining. His laser shot from the point was just too much for Wolves’ goaltender, Matt Climie to handle.
Behind a 26-save shut-out, Jack Campbell earned First-Star honors. Both goal scorers, Carl Sneep and Toby Petersen would complete the Stars sweep. Sneep was named the Second Star behind a two-point performance, having assisted with Petersen’s goal in the first.
