In this week’s AHL Simulation of the Week, we travel to Binghamton, New York where the Senators host the Connecticut Whale. While the Senators are poised to reach the playoffs and sit fourth in the Conference, the Whale currently control the eighth and final playoff spot with three other teams breathing down their necks. Tonight’s action between the Whale and Senators starts at 7:05 PM ET.
As we approach the end of the season, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that matches end-up being such tight contests. In another nail-biter, the Senators manage to pull off an overtime victory 2-1. The goal scoring wouldn’t commence until the mid-way point of the 3rd period, when Senators Winger Cole Schneider slotted the puck past Whale Goaltender Cameron Talbot. The Whale did answer back with less than four minutes remaining, when Kris Newbury scored thanks to a poor line-change by the home side.
Unfortunately for the Whale, they couldn’t hold on to that momentum entering the extra frame. The winning goal would come from Kanata, Ontario’s Mark Borowiecki. He managed to pull off a pretty incredible shot after receiving a wonderful pass from teammate, Shane Prince.
The Senators would sweep the 3 Stars. First Star went to Goaltender Nathan Lawson who saved 39 of the 40 shots he faced. Goal scorers Mark Borowiecki and Cole Schneider would be named Second and Third Stars respectively.
